Health Screening & Genetic Standards
Sphynx Coastal Cattery maintains a structured, preventative health program that guides every aspect of our breeding decisions. Our approach combines genetic testing, cardiac evaluation, infectious disease screening, and lifelong wellness care to ensure that every cat in our breeding program meets strict health and temperament standards.
Health is not treated as a single test result, but as an ongoing system of evaluation and care that supports the long-term well-being of our breeding lines and the kittens we place in approved homes.

Genetic Testing & DNA Screening
We use Wisdom Panel DNA to guarantee the authenticity, health, and characteristics of our Sphynx cats.
We screen for all known feline diseases. The screening we do includes ruling out mutations in the ALMS1 gene which is the gene associated with the potential development of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).
We also perform SNAP tests to ensure we maintain a pathogen and virus free environment for our furless babies.

Infectious Disease Screening
To maintain a safe and controlled breeding environment, all cats are routinely tested for:

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)
Testing is performed using veterinary SNAP diagnostics as part of our preventative health protocol.
These screenings help protect both individual cats and future litters within our program.
Cardiac Health Monitoring
(HCM Screening)
We ensure the well-being of our Sphynx cats with HCM scans.
Because Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a known concern in the Sphynx breed, all breeding cats undergo annual cardiac evaluation by a board-certified veterinary cardiologist at CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets in Austin, Texas.
This ongoing monitoring provides a deeper level of cardiac assessment beyond genetic screening and supports early detection, prevention-focused care, and long-term heart health within our breeding program.
